What we do
Stefan Michelberger, the managing director of has-consult, has been an accredited professional of the Savory Institute since March 2025. The Savory Institute is focused on restoring grasslands. However, practicing Holistic Management can be used in all types of agriculture and even in other areas.. This represents a paradigm shift from a reductionist approach that focuses on symptoms to an approach that identifies root causes and practices ways to address these causes. Because we are managing complex systems, simple solutions do not exist; therefore, the feedback loop to monitor outcomes is essential.
In addition to advising and coaching agricultural stakeholders, we advise investors and companies, mainly but not exclusively in emerging markets, on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risk management. For risk management, we apply the recognized international sustainability standards for financing: the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability.
Who we work with
Our clients for ESG risk management are development finance institutions (DFIs) and impact investors. HSM Consult has also started coaching farmers on the Holistic Management Framework.
