Practicing Holistic Management
The Savory Institute's Holistic Management Framework is an innovative approach to agriculture and beyond. It recognizes that agriculture, not industrial food production, is a modified ecosystem and a complex system.
At the Savory Institute, we manage complexity and all aspects of running a farm business. We help farmers identify their holistic context and how the land(scape) should be developed. We then help farmers identify weak spots and develop holistic financial planning.
We plan profits first, then spending on costs. In agriculture, this can be done by focusing on ecosystem processes and enhancing photosynthesis and production. The money generated is based mainly on solar energy, not inputs like fertilizer and feed. Total production may be lower, but costs are reduced and profits will increase.
The primary focus of this study is on livestock and grazing practices. The development of grazing plans is intended to promote the enhancement of pasture productivity. The enhancement of ecosystem processes invariably leads to an augmentation in biodiversity. The measurement of these outcomes will be facilitated by the implementation of Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV), a methodological framework designed to assess environmental impacts.
